Description

9-year-old Eleagnus bonsai

Height of the tree: 26 cm

Height of the tree with the pot: 33 cm

Circumference of the nebari (root collar): 6 cm

Characteristics

Evergreen tree. It belongs to the Eleagnaceae family.

Native to Asia, this tree is highly valued for its small, fragrant white flowers and its red fruits.

Exposure

The Eleagnus is a tree to be placed in full sun. However, it must be protected from cold and frost (greenhouse or indoors).

Watering

Abundant in summer and moderate in winter, it is advisable to wait until the substrate is dry before watering again.

Pruning

Structural pruning is done at the end of autumn or the beginning of spring, around the month of February. Green pruning, on the other hand, takes place during the growth period from June until the end of autumn..

Fertilizer

From spring to autumn with liquid or solid fertilizer, chemical or organic, according to your preference.

Repotting

The Eleagnus is repotted approximately every two years. Repotting is usually done in spring when the buds begin to swell. We recommend a draining substrate such as akadama or an akadama-pumice mix.

Particularity

The Eleagnus has distinctive leaves. When they bud, they display a slight whitish fuzz. This disappears as the leaf matures, revealing a silvery-green leaf.
